Overview
Mediation is used to help two or more people resolve an outstanding dispute or conflict. A mediator encourages the parties involved to explore the reason behind how they feel and why the situation has become a problem. By exploring the issues with a third party who can help clarify confusing messages or misinterpretations there should be a better chance of finding a solution that suits everyone. Often we can find it difficult to see the other person’s point of view or to imagine how they might be feeling because we are so emotionally involved ourselves within a given situation.
Mediation can also be used in the workplace where people experience a personality clash or misunderstanding that is not easily resolved by talking together. By reducing workplace conflict early in the development of differences the workplace can avoid expensive legal procedures to find resolutions with all the associated negative relationships and stress involved.
