Hopi Ear Candles

A Brief History

The use of ear candles is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many cultures. They were traditionally used by Shamen healers. Ancient wall paintings show their importance in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies. It is also believed that the Ancient Greeks used them, initially for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis, but much later on a purely physical basis.

The practice reached the modern world via the Native American Hopi Indians, thereby giving them their name. The candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians.

How do Hopi Ear Candles work?

Ear candles are hollow and cylindrical in shape, the healing properties of the candle firstly works on the chimney effect, the vibration of the rising air column serves to gently massage the ear drum, promoting secretion in the ears and sinuses, the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. The candles equalise the pressure in the ears and clients often describe a soothing, light sensation in their head and ears.

Secondly the warmth applied locally to the ear stimulates vascularisation, invigorates the immune system and reinforces the flow of lymph. At the same time, important meridian points and reflex zones are stimulated

Ear candles induce a revitalising heat upon the head and ears, which soothes, relieves and relaxes.

Fay also includes gentle massage / reflexology of the ear as part of the treatment.

What are they made from?

The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax.
